On October 24, 2024, the Business Breakfast took place in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam, gathering 30 representatives and experts from energy companies, including legal and financial professionals, and investors, for an insightful session.
Globally, the REC market has developed vastly, playing an important role in helping businesses meet low-carbon emissions targets and promoting clean energy production worldwide. In Viet Nam, however, the REC market is still in its early stages. Corporate demand for RECs has not yet kept up with the growth rate of supply. Additionally, the regulatory framework to encourage the REC market is still under development.
Through the open exchange of Business Breakfast, the guests explored key issues around:
- Benefits and revenue streams of RECs for power projects in Viet Nam.
- Key taxes and regulatory considerations for businesses in issuing and trading certificates in the Vietnamese energy market.
- Insights and lessons from international REC market: a focus on Germany, US, Korea market and best practices for Vietnamese enterprises.
The Business Breakfast series is part of the GIZ ESP’s Vietnamese-German Climate & Energy Dialogue, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), and aims to drive collaboration and deepen understanding in Viet Nam’s rapidly evolving renewable energy landscape.
