The River-Centric Urbanism Task Force under GIZ TUEWAS Network is organising a series of webinars to share insights into the successes, gaps, and challenges of managing river cities. This series emphasises the complexities of water governance, particularly the challenge of balancing river water management in urban settings with basin-level priorities. Covering the Ganga, Brahmaputra, Meghna, and Mekong basins, the TUEWAS task force includes member projects across these regions, creating a platform for cross-basin learning and collaboration.
The first webinar, held on 28 October 2024 and titled “Mainstreaming River Considerations into Urban Planning,”brought together leading experts from river basin and urban planning institutions across the four basins to discuss proactive, river-sensitive approaches adopted in their cities. The event was attended by over 40 water and urban experts, and discussions underscored the importance of aligning urban planning tools and frameworks with broader basin governance to ensure resilient and healthy river ecosystems for the future.
