Welcome note by the SN Spokesperson

  Dear Sector Network TUEWAS members:

Welcome back!

I am very pleased to share with you all the second edition of our quarterly newsletter, packed with the latest news and updates from around the region. This edition covers a wide range of technical topics including circular economy, smart grid implementation, digitalization of energy efficiency, solid waste management, urban mobility and so much more. Herein you will also find the latest information about upcoming events, trainings and webinars, as well as a library of links to other newsletters and online resources.

As relieved as we are to put 2020 in the rearview mirror, we are fully aware that the COVID-19 pandemic still rages on around the world. While the introduction of promising new vaccines has us hopeful, we find that it is still logistically impossible to plan our the Joint Conference of SNRD Asia and the Pacific and Sector Network TUEWAS in the foreseeable future. Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that we have decided to postpone our event until further notice.

Despite this unfortunate news, we have an exciting line-up of meetings and networking opportunities planned for this year, with more information to be shared by our Secretariat in the coming weeks and months. Until then, thank all of you for staying active and keeping our network alive and well.

If you think there is more we can do to support you – or if you have suggestions for our next newsletter – don’t hesitate to reach out to us anytime at patrick.pawletko@giz.de, donaya.siamwalla@giz.de, wilaiwan.photharam@giz.de, neha.singh1@giz.de or on Microsoft Teams.

Stay safe and enjoy the newsletter!

Experts from the China Integrated Waste Management NAMA (IWM NAMA) Project finished their analysis on the 3rd waste management monitoring tour in the five demonstration cities of Tai'an, Xi’an, Lanzhou, Bengbu and Suzhou in November 2020. The monitoring team concluded that the cities cumulatively reduced emissions from municipal solid waste management operations by 2,589,977 tCO2e until end of 2020 (in comparison to the baseline) as well as continuous reduction of GHG emission intensity since the project start. Be curious on monitoring results? Wonder how did the overall GHG emission reduction amounts increased year by year? Or puzzle about the changes of MSW composition in demonstration municipalities?
