1 February 2018, Bangkok – GIZ Thailand and Malaysia announced the appointment of Mr. Tim Mahler as its Country Director for Thailand and Malaysia.

Prior to this appointment, Mr. Mahler held various leading positions at GIZ Thailand including Cluster Coordinator for Climate and Environment, Programme Director of the Thai-German Climate Programme, Project Director of Thailand Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (RAC NAMA) and Spokesperson of GIZ´s sector network on transport, environment, energy and water in Asia (TUEWAS).

From 2010 to 2014, he was a Key Account Manager in Liaison Office to the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) in charge of the development of the cooperation between GIZ and BMUB as well as of setting up the German-UK Climate Finance Instrument NAMA Facility. During his tenure there, he was also acting Head of Liaison Office and responsible for the development of climate change projects worldwide. He served as Project Manager seconded to the BMUB from 2009 to 2010. In this capacity, he oversaw the implementation of EU projects on sustainable development and renewable energy.

Mr. Mahler holds a Master Degree in European Studies from Freie Universität and a Bachelor Degree in Political Sciences from Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen.

He replaces Mr. Stefan Helming who served as a Country Director for GIZ Thailand and Malaysia since 2015.

“I am excited to take over the position as GIZ Country Director. In the next years we will be working on extending our cooperation in the framework of the Thai-German cooperation on our priority topics such as climate change, agriculture, energy and transport. To do so, we will continue our work with the German Ministries, the European Union, bilateral donors, international foundations, UN-Organisation, private companies and many more. But most of all, I am looking forward to further deepen our cooperation with our Thai partners.”
