3RproMar 2nd Regional Workshop Series: Preventing Marine Plastic Pollution for a Stronger Circular Economy in ASEAN

22 May 2023

The 3RproMar’s 2nd Regional Workshop was held on 22 May 2023, with the theme “Preventing Marine Plastic Pollution for a Stronger Circular Economy in ASEAN”. The Workshop was held back-to-back with the 3rd Project Steering Committee (PSC) Meeting of 3RproMar and the 24th Meeting of ASEAN Working Group on Coastal and Marine Environment (AWGCME). Taking stock of collective actions and efforts to reshape the way we produce-use-dispose plastics, the Workshop gathered local authorities, national government, and regional policy makers to discuss good practices and lessons learned on land-based marine plastic prevention initiatives from the ASEAN region, and the ways in which we can advance Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and behavioral change strategies. The Workshop also served as a platform to collate information on the current ASEAN Member States’ (AMS) positions towards the upcoming global plastics treaty and involvement in the treaty negotiation process. The participants took part in breakout sessions to discuss the proposals for actions to support the implementation of the ASEAN Regional Action Plan (RAP) on Combatting Marine Debris.
