
To achieve improved sustainable public transport in Indonesian cities, the Ministry of Transportation in collaboration with SUTRI NAMA & INDOBUS conducted a workshop on 21 June 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia to enhance the capacity of local stakeholders in 6 pilot cities, namely Bandung, Batam, Makassar, Pekanbaru, Semarang, and Surabaya, regarding the economic and financial benefit assessment of public transport project. The 21 participants are representatives of the national, provincial, and city transportation agency, also a provincial transportation business entity. The workshop focuses on the assessment of public transport initiatives through Cost Benefit Analysis and Sustainable Asset Valuation (SAVi), emphasising the importance of including non-monetary externalities such as social, environmental, and health values during the process. The workshop concluded with the participants completing an interactive exercise referring to the condition of their respective regions. The participants also came to a common understanding that sustainable public transport is beneficial in terms of time saved, economic gains for the area, job creation, and reduction of traffic accidents, noise, and air pollution.
