The Marine Litter Prevention through Reduction, Sustainable Design and Recycling of Plastic Packaging (MA-RE-DESIGN) project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUV), is a collaborative effort between Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and the United Nations Environment Programme – Coordinating Body on the Seas of East Asia (UNEP-COBSEA), with the Pollution Control Department and various stakeholders. The project aims to support the plastic packaging waste management and protect Thailand’s marine environment, aligned with the country’s Plastic Waste Management Roadmap 2018–2030.

A planning workshop on July 14, 2023, engaged over 40 participants from government, private sector, academia, and non-profits. GIZ, WWF, and UNEP-COBSEA presented an overview of the project and draft workplans, seeking input from experts to ensure activities are relevant to current circumstances.

The workshop yielded strong collaboration and enriched the project’s workplan, gathering valuable suggestions and new data. Participants expressed readiness to support the project in subsequent phases. The project will analyze participant suggestions and integrate them into a well-structured operational framework aligned with Thailand’s current situation.
