ASEAN Mayor Forum (AMF) 2023: ASEAN Matters, Epicentrum of Growth “Catalyzing Regional Growth through Sustainable Development in ASEAN Cities”

The Urban-Act project hosted a panel session with the topic of “Building Resilient Cities and Climate Actions” during the ASEAN Mayors Forum 2023 with some key takeaways: (1) the platform of the Urban-Act project was recognized as an important enabler in the context of supporting policy interventions, capacity building and strengthening partnerships toward low carbon and resilient cities in the region; (2) both national and local governments have made significant efforts, among others by carrying out urban greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories, promoting GHG emission reduction, urban reforestation, and climate village programs; (3) low public awareness and participation on climate change issues, limited institutional and regulatory capacities, inadequate data availability and constrained funding are challenges faced by national and local governments, and (4) financial support is needed to aid climate action.
