Launch of the 3RproMar Knowledge Partnership for Marine Litter Prevention in ASEAN

31 August 2023

The 3RproMar Regional Knowledge Partnership for Marine Litter Prevention in ASEAN was launched with Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), and Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) to enhance accessibility for knowledge on the prevention of marine litter in the region. The Partnership was established to help achieve the 3RproMar project’s objective by bridging the knowledge gap, in view of contributing to the ASEAN Environment Knowledge Hub.

Commencing the Partnership, the member institutions sat together to discuss their respective activities. Ms. Mae Jordaine B. Diopenes from AIT highlighted their focus on waste and resource management, particularly on downstream national legislation and policies. Dr. Luca Nizzetto from NIVA explained how they build knowledge through research projects and aim to make mathematical models accessible to ASEAN experts. Ms. Ayako Mizuno from RKC-MPD emphasized their role in collecting marine plastic-related information and disseminating good practices. All three institutions agreed that the success of the partnership lies in effective collaboration, generating science-based knowledge products, and addressing stakeholders’ actual needs.
