> Background  

The “Leipzig Charter on Sustainable European Cities” (2007) and its update as the “New Leipzig Charter” (2020) are the guiding documents for the German National Urban Development Policy. The New Leipzig Charter is strategically oriented towards urban development policy in Europe. It focuses on the common good and empowered municipalities.

But what are the concrete dimensions of action and key principles of good urban policy? Where is there an urgent need for action? Can the rationale and guiding principle of urban development for the common good become an export success for development / international cooperation? We invite you to join the discussion on these and other questions around the National Urban Development Policy and the New Leipzig Charta.
